Your first licence is a probationary licence. After passing the exam tests, you obtain a licence for a two-year probationary period, endowed with a capital of twenty (20) points (art. 23).
The points capital is reduced by operation of law if you are convicted of an offence providing for a deduction, or if you pay a settlement or fixed fine (art. 22). The licence is cancelled when the points capital is exhausted.
If you lose all your points during probation (art. 24), the licence is cancelled by operation of law as soon as the last point is lost. You will only be able to retake the tests after a minimum period of six (6) months from the handing over of the licence to the administration. If you pass, you obtain a new one-year probationary licence, endowed with only ten (10) points.
Tips for recovering points:
- If you lose more than two thirds of your points during probation, you must attend a road safety education session (art. 26).
- Before the end of the probationary period, you can recover 4 points by attending such a session, without exceeding the maximum capital (art. 33).
At the end of probation, your licence is exchanged for a new one endowed with the maximum capital of thirty (30) points (art. 27).
