Online Purchase Return: 7-Day Withdrawal Right?

Last updated 7/5/20260 viewsProvisional

Online purchases have a 7-day withdrawal right from receipt with full refund within 15 days. Extended to 30 days if supplier fails written confirmation.

Yes, you have a right of withdrawal. For a distance purchase (internet, telephone, etc.), you have seven days to withdraw, without having to justify yourself or pay any penalties, except possibly the return shipping costs (art. 36).

This period runs from the date the goods are received, or from acceptance of the offer in the case of a supply of services (art. 36).

Good to know: if the supplier has not complied with its obligation to confirm in writing the information provided for in articles 29 and 32, your period is extended to thirty days (art. 36).

Once withdrawal has been exercised, the supplier must refund you the full amount paid, without delay and no later than within 15 days following the date on which you exercised this right. Beyond that, the sum due bears interest at the legal rate in force (art. 37).

Be aware that this right does not apply to certain contracts: services already begun with your agreement before the end of the period, personalized or perishable goods, audio/video recordings or software whose seal has been broken, newspapers and magazines (art. 38).
