How to Verify a Real Sale Discount in Morocco?

Last updated 7/5/20260 viewsProvisional

During a sale, the trader must display the word "sale," the new price, and the old price struck through, as well as the dates (art. 54), with the old struck-through price not exceeding the lowest price charged in the preceding 30 days (art. 54).

Sales have a precise legal definition. They are sales accompanied or preceded by advertising, announced as aiming, through a price reduction, to accelerate the clearance of products and goods in stock (art. 53).

The trader must display clearly and legibly the word "sale" and indicate at the points of sale (art. 54):

  • the products or goods covered by the reduction;
  • the new price applied and the old price struck through;
  • the duration of the sale, with its start and end.

An important point for checking that a discount is real: the old struck-through price may not exceed the lowest price actually charged by the trader for a similar item in the same establishment during the 30 days preceding the start of the sale (art. 54).

Any advertising for a sales operation must state the start date, the duration, and the nature of the goods concerned if the operation does not cover all products (art. 55). Finally, the word "sale(s)" may not be used as a sign or trade name for an activity that does not correspond to a genuine sales operation (art. 55).
